Garret and I got a puppy in November, and in preparation for her arrival, I realized that chic pet essentials are hard to find. Well, let me rephrase that - cute, temporary pet supplies are difficult to find because most of us don’t want to spend a lot of money on something that may not survive the puppy phase!Â
So I’ve done the hard work for you and compiled a list of designer-approved dog essentials at various price ranges to suit your puppy and adult dog budget needs! Oh and if you’re building a home, you don’t want to skip the Barkitechture section where we cover pet-focused design elements, like feeding stations, that will make your everyday routines easier!
Everyday Essentials
Crates + Crate Covers
If you’re crate training, you’ll want a crate cover so that your pup can feel cozy and safe. Thankfully, a cover also helps disguise the crate and can help their space coexist more beautifully with yours.Â
If you’re in the puppy phase, you're probably upgrading the crate as they grow, swapping out beds for accidents, etc., so I recommend this affordable crate cover that we got for Lolly.
If you’re ready to invest in a more permanent, stylish crate…
Bonus: We love this travel crate for Lolly! We invested in this crate (versus the lower-priced options) because we didn’t want to purchase a new one later, and it has withstood her puppy antics - digging at the mesh, pottying, and other attempts to destroy it! I strongly recommend!
Dog Beds
Again, you don’t reallyyyy want to invest in an expensive bed with the chance of it not surviving the puppy stage. Here are some options all around $40!Â
When we’re ready to invest in a furever bed, we’ll likely get one of these options. (I also love The Foggy Dog!)
Play Pens + Toys
A play pen was our saving grace when we had to take our eyes off of her for a minute to cook, eat, or work. All of the affordable options in my initial search were BUTT-UGLY, but after some digging, I found this one on Chewy!Â
What I love most about this cute puppy play pen is the color - the brass, unlike traditional black, helps it fade into our living room versus sticking out like a sore thumb. (FYI: If gold isn’t in your home’s color palette, I think a silver one would achieve the same effect!)Â
As someone in the throes of puppyhood, I could not care less about the aesthetics of her toys so long as they entertain her. However, here are some of her faves that also happen to be cute!Â
Once her attention span increases from that of a gnat, I will be investing in some of these cute enrichment toys from Lambwolf Collective!Â
Dog Bowls
There are actually a ton of cute dog bowls out there, so here are a few of my favorite at different price points!Â
Lolly is a spaniel, so her ears are constantly getting wet or crusty with food! We plan to upgrade her bowls to these in the next year. (Side note: Why are all of the stylish pet supplies in the UK?!)
Barkitecture
If you’re in the process of building a home, don’t forget to take your dogs into consideration! Caring for our dogs is a part of our daily routine - filling up water bowls, grooming, putting them to bed - so why not incorporate them into your home design?
These practical, pet-focused design elements (lovingly called Barkitechture) make caring for your pets that much easier and streamlined - not to mention they’ll up your property value!

I've learned to let go of perfection since having a puppy, but thankfully these cute dog essentials help our home stay chic and practical amidst the muddy paws.
